Streit Manufacturing is committed to continuous improvement, and we are constantly meeting with suppliers of alternate composite and high-tech armor products. Even products such as ceramic, kevlar and carbon fibre have been included in our research and development efforts to increase personal protection and personal security. Although we do not discount the effectiveness and integrity of these avante-garde materials, we are not yet absolutely convinced that their current pricing effectively addresses the needs of the armored vehicles industry. The weight saving is not justified by the higher cost of these materials at this point in time.

We utilize welded steel construction in all our armored vehicles, because of its tested effectiveness in defeating the various levels of weaponry and ammunition to increase personal protection and personal security level. Ballistic quality steel is selected to meet a variety of protection levels, and varies in hardness and thickness. Steel mill certificates are provided with each shipment to verify quality, and Streit randomly tests these deliveries with high caliber fire to assert product consistency.

BALLISTIC TRANSPARENT ARMOR

Referred to as Laminated Glass/Polycarbonate Transparency Armor or LTA. This glass provides a superior level of protection against the toughest security concerns, from random acts of street violence to Head of State protection.

The glass areas of each Streit armored vehicle are retrofitted with either curved, OEM style or standard flat bullet resistant glass panels. These panels are actually a multi-layered lamination of glass and polycarbonate layers, including an inner layer of considerably thicker polycarbonate to prevent spalling or glass fragmentation toward the occupants upon ballistic impact. Our glass suppliers provide us with a level of protection certificate for each set of glass they ship to us, and etch each section with their certification.
